The death toll from landslides and floods on the Atlantic coast of the state of São Paulo, in southeastern Brazil, has risen to 36, according to a local government statement released Sunday night.

The President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, announced that he would travel this Monday to the area of the climatic disaster that affected the municipalities of the northern coast of São Paulo, which was full of tourists taking advantage of the extended Carnival holiday.
